Chhattisgarh Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu on Wednesday felicitated Bemetara Superintendent of Police and the district's police personnel for use of newer technology for crime prevention, investigation and enquiry. Bemetara Superintendent of Police Divyang Patel and his team were given a shield and a shawl at a simple function held at the official residence of the Minister in Raipur, an official statement said. Bemetara MLA Ashish Chabra was present.

The Minister asked Patel to install closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) at the main squares of Bemetara city. At the event, Patel gave a brief insight into how the police was using technology to solve crime. Citing an example, he said that on June 3 an unknown truck driver abducted a seven-year old girl and molested her. The Home Minister wanted the criminal to be arrested immediately.

It was a tough task, Patel said. The Global Positioning System (GPS) data analysis was used to scan over 12,000 trucks, leading to the arrest of the accused on June 19.
