Attack on activist's pregnant wife unfortunate: Sanjay

Staff Reporter

The deadly attack on the pregnant wife of a human rights activist is unfortunate and condemnable, chairman of the Chhattisgarh RTI activists association Sanjay Singh Thakur said here on Friday.

He said Bhupendra Vaishnav, an RTI activist and lawyer from Kharsia had to pay the heavy price for seeking information from the local municipality.

The husband of the Municipality CMO and his friends carried out the attack and threatened to kill if he uses the RTI for seeking further information.

The pregnant wife of the activist lost her baby after the attack, he said. Besides Thakur also condemned the way false case of murder attempt, attack and criminal conspiracy was registered against Vaishnav.

He also condemned the way he was arrested and remanded to jail on false charge. Thakur demanded adequate security for the family of Bhupenjdra’s family.

Instead of taking vindictive action against him and targeting his wife, the administration should have provided the information to him and investigate the activities of the CMO.

This would have prevented the officials who are involved in corruption and criminal activities.

Thakur also expressed his surprise that the State Commission for women and the Human rights commission have not taken any action on the matter even though the incident took place on International women’s day.

The RTI leader said his organisation will move the Governor and information commission and seek action against the culprits and demand security for Bhupendra’s family.
