Charging that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government was insensitive towards the crime committed against women, the national spokesperson of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Priyanka Chaturvedi, alleged that women were not safe in Government jobs as the Government was sheltering the culprit officials.
Priyanka while addressing a press conference here at Rajiv Bhawan while citing figures and records of National Crime Record Bureau further charged that more than 27,000 women from Chhattisgarh were missing in last five years. The government itself had admitted this in the state assembly, she said.
The incidents of rape are increasing in state with an alarming proportion of 12% per year and on an average six women are raped per day, she said while quoting the figures.
The sexual harassment of girls in tribal hostel of Kanker drew nationwide attention and the name of state was tainted, she said.
The state also gained notoriety in being number two in crime against minor girls nation-wide, Priyanka further added.
Crime against women in Government offices proves that the protectors themselves have become offenders and the government instead of taking stern action is sheltering them and even more astonishing is giving promotions to them, Priyanka said.
