The Chhattisgarh Assembly was on Monday adjourned for the day after paying glowing tributes to departed leaders and Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and others who died in a helicopter crash on December 8.

As soon as the House assembled for a five-day winter session, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and other members greeted Speaker Charan Das Mahant on his birthday.

Mahant said he will not celebrate the birthday out of respect for departed MLA and former MLAs as well as including Gen Rawat.

He then made obituary references to Devvrat Singh, Gondil Prasad Anuragi, Rajinder Pal Singh Bhatia, Yudhvir Singh Judeo, Moolchand Khandelwal, Manuram Kacch and Gen Rawat.

Baghel described Devvrat Singh, who hailed from a royal family, as a simple but dynamic person. The 52-yearold was also a progressive farmer.

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, former Chief Minister Raman Singh, Dr Renu Jogi, Keshav Chandra and other members also paid tributes.

The House observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect.

On December 14, the second supplementary budget will be tabled. It will be discussed on December 15 after Question Hour.
