AN Upadhyay takes charge of DGP

SR

A N Upadhyay, the 1985 batch IPS officer, took the charge of Chhattisgarh Director General of Police here on Saturday. Earlier, he was shifted from the post of Home Secretary as ADGP (Administration) as in-charge DGP following the retirement of Ramniwas from the post of DGP on January 31.

It may be noted that Election Commission of India had directed that poll process would not be conducted under an in-charge DGP. The state government was then left with two options - either to elevate the DG (Prisons) Girdhari Nayak as DGP or appoint Upadhyay as DGP and the state government opted for the second one.

Talking with reports soon after assuming the office, Upadhyay stated that since his top priority is to give suitable atmosphere in Maoists-infested state, where people would freely exercise their franchise to elect a Government.

The meeting of Departmental Promotions Committee (DPC) held at Naya Raipur-based Mantralaya (Mahanadi Bhawan) on Friday had recommended to elevate 1985-batch IPS officer A N Upadhyay as Director General (DG) Administration. A N Upadhyay, hailing from Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh has completed Masters of Arts from Allahabad University.
