The State Government has given the facilities of modern MRI and CT scan machines costing Rs 12 crore and Rs 8 crore respectively for the patients of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital in the state capital. Health and Family Planning minister Amar Agrawal on Friday morning dedicated the two machines to the people.

According to official sources, with the installation of the new machines, patients would get MRI and CT scan report with 15 minutes. The Minister has also dedicated the administrative block of the Radiology department. MlA Kuldeep Juneja, director health Dr Subbir Mukherjee, dean of the medical college Dr SK Mishra, Dr ATK Dabke, superintendent of the hospital Dr Vivek Choudhary and HoD of Radiology department Dr Vishnu Dutt were present on the occasion.

The health Minister said that the State Government was continuously making efforts to provide modern medical equipment to the largest hospital of the State, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital. MRI and CT scan machines were already available in the hospital, but due to less capacity of these machines patients have to wait for a long time, he added.

Earlier, CT scan of about 25-30 patients could be done per day, but with the new machine now 50-60 could be scanned. This is the first machine of its kind in central India. Radiologist Dr Vishnu Dutt said that as the new MRI machine is open, broad and of small magnet, the patient would not get panic (claustrophobia) while entering into the bore. Because of the imaging channel and high speed lesser time would be taken for scanning, he added.

About the new CT scan machine, he said, cardiac CT will be done in five minutes and whole body angiography in less than 20 minutes. As it has CT oncology software, it would be helpful in treatment and staging of cancer. In comparison to general machine, 40-50 per cent less radiation dose is needed in this machine, he added.
