Non-payment of salary for the last three months may force the sanitary workers of the biggest government hospital of the state – Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital – to take the path of agitation.
According to sources, the sanitary workers of the hospital were not getting their salary for the last three months and they have been facing financial problems. At present 200 sanitary workers are rendering their services to the hospital in three shifts, about 60-70 workers in each shift.
The sources said that the contract for the cleaning of the hospital was awarded to Bundel from Bilaspur.
He has to make payment to the workers, but since last three months he has not made payment to the workers. One of the woman sanitary workers of the hospital, on the condition of anonymity, said that since she did not get wages for the last three months, she had to mortgage her gold ring.
Another male worker said that he lives in a rented house and since he could not pay the rent for the last three months, the house owner was forcing him to vacate the house.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the assistant superintendent of the hospital, Dr AP Pandraha declined to comment on the issue and said that he has been banned from issuing statement to the media in this matter.
