Chhattisgarh High Court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of State’s former Chief Minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh – Jogi (JCC-J)’s supremo Ajit Jogi.
With the rejection of his bail plea, a threat of arrest is looming large on Jogi.
Court of Justice RCS Samant rejected the bail plea of Jogi in which Advocate General, Chhattisgarh, Satish Chandra Verma pleaded on behalf of the state government.
Jogi in his plea pleaded that his certificate was issued in the year 1967 and hence the Act enforced in the year 2013 could not be applicable to him.
AG, Verma pleading for the government took objection to it, asserting that the caste certificate was used to fight state assembly elections in 2013 as well as in the year 2019. There was continuation of offence and the high power scrutiny committee taking cognizance in the year 2019 had nullified the caste certificate.
Hence as the certificate of him has been declared illegal, he must not be granted the anticipatory bail, he pleaded.
Meanwhile the High Court rejected the bail plea of Jogi paving way for his arrest by the state government any time from now.
Notably, two FIRs have been registered against Jogi in Bilaspur district headquarters as well as at the Gaurella Police station. The FIR in Bilaspur was lodged by District Collector after high power scrutiny committee findings. Another FIR was registered by Gaurella police on complaint of one Samira Painkra.
