Abide by code of conduct: Poll official tells politicians

Staff Reporter

Collector and District Election Officer Hemant Pahare has asked the leaders of all political parties to abide by the model code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of India.

"All the political figures must refrain from any action that could be punishable and is termed as corrupt practices. They must not bribe or threaten the voters," Pahare said.

Pahare also urged the senior political leaders to ensure that their party workers do not create ruckus in political events or rallies that are organised by other parties. He also said that the parties must inform police well in advance before they take out any rally or conduct a public gathering. This will ensure that the police is ready to make arrangements of security.

If there are any prohibitory orders issued for a certain place or it is required to take permission to use loudspeakers, the political parties must apply for the same beforehand and go ahead with the rallies or gathering only after obtaining necessary permission, said Pahare.

It is also the duty of party workers to cooperate with the police in controlling any untoward situation. The parties must also give a detailed plan of any rally that they wish to conduct. The police must be apprised of their entire route in advance so that they can arrange for security and traffic control, said Pahare.

The political parties must chalk out their plans in such a manner that no disturbance is caused to the vehicular movement. Pahare also said that burning of effigies should not be practiced.
