AAP opens office, eyes C’garh

After its emphatic win in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Sunday that it wants to consolidate in other states including in Chhattisgarh where it is aiming to be an alternative to both the Congress and the BJP.

The AAP will hold a ‘Badalbo Chhattisgarh Vijay Yatra’ (Change Chhattisgarh Victory Rally) from the Science College Ground on March 21, AAP's Chhattisgarh in-charge and Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said here.

Rai and a Delhi MLA, Manoj Jha, are on two-day visit to Chhattisgarh.

Rai told the media that the political situation in Chhattisgarh was similar to the one that prevailed in Punjab, where people overwhelmingly voted against established leaders and for an AAP government in last month's assembly elections.

He said a similar situation prevailed in Chhattisgarh, where the Congress and the BJP have ruled the state for over 18 years. A massive mandate was given to the Congress in 2018 but the government has failed to meet the expectations of the people, he added.

After the Punjab elections, prominent faces want to join AAP, which Rai said will become a vehicle for change. According to him, several former officers have taken membership of the AAP.

On the day of the rally, the AAP will release a telephone which can be used to take up membership of AAP, he said. In the next one month, a membership drive will be launched in all the assembly constituencies of the state, he said.
