The Chhattisgarh government on Friday said that in the past one year 77,000 children in the state recovered from malnutrition.
Also, over 98,000 women in Chhattisgarh recovered from anaemia, an official press release said.
As per data received from ‘Vajan Tihar’ (weighing programme), when ‘Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan’ was launched on October 2, 2019, 4.92 lakh children between 6 months and 5 years were malnourished in the state.
Of these, 77,000 have recovered, it said. Further, 98,221 women between age 15 and 49 years also recovered from anaemia.
According to government data, in 2018 malnourishment in Chhattisgarh was 26.33, which has fallen to 23.37 percent. So, in the past year, there was a 2.96 percent reduction.
Woman and Child Development Minister Anila Bhediya said that a coordinated work plan along with resourcing of nutritious food at local level through ‘Kitchen Garden’ and increased public participation were major factors behind the achievement.
Data from National Family Health Survey-4 said the majority of malnourished children were from tribal families living in hinterlands.
Distribution of door-to-door ready-to-eat food and dry ration also played a key role. The World Bank lauded the efforts of Anganwadi workers for distributing take-home ration despite the Covid, Bhediya was quoted as saying in the press release.
