More than 700 women have been given employment-oriented training in the last three-and-a-half-years under self-dependency scheme run by the Women and Child Development Department. More than Rs 27,78,000 have been spent under the scheme for the welfare of women, informed in an official statement here on Tuesday.
It may be noted that since 2009-10, widows, divorced and unmarried women between 35 and 45 years of age have been given free training by the department so that they are able to earn their livelihood. Officials in the department said 305 women were given training in 2010-11, 150 women in 2011-12, 138 women in 2012-13 and 172 women till December 2013. The trainings are provided at district-level.
