Six more physiotherapy students were admitted to the hospital after their condition deteriorated during the ongoing relay of fast unto death here at Budha Talab here on Wednesday. The physiotherapy students and professionals are on fast unto death since December 7 in support of their demand to establish a ‘Physiotherapy Council’ in the State.

State Coordinator of Chhattisgarh Association of Physiotherapists (CAP) Dr SK Sen said that as many as 25 students have been admitted to the hospital in past four days out of which condition of five is not good.

He said that six students have been discharged from the hospital but they have rejoined the strike.  “Our demand is pending for more than a decade and the Government has paid no heed despite repeated protests and strike. This time also, not a single officer has visited us despite deteriorating health of the agitating students,” said Dr Sen.

He said that they had met the Chief Minister in December but he did not give any assurance. A delegation will soon meet the Government officials and apprise them about the protest and the demands.N “But we will continue the protest till the State Government takes any decision in our interest,” added Dr Sen. The physiotherapists said that they are being exploited since they are not registered with any recognised body.

They also demanded the Government to remove the mandatory condition of registration of physiotherapists with the Paramedical Council because they are not paramedics.
