At least 52 persons were arrested and cash Rs 1.25 lakh was recovered from their possession as they were found indulged in gambling in the name of cock fight at Bagatgaon on Sunday. Notably cock fight is a banned game and is particularly famous in Bastar region.
According to Purani Basti police, cops had received complaints that some people were organising cock fight near a plot behind Government school Bhatagaon for a long time in which large number of people participated. Station House Officer MM Khan informed that the plot is surrounded by boundary wall so one cannot easily guess what in going on behind the walls. “Six cocks were also recovered from the possession of the gamblers apart from cash Rs 1.25 lakh,” the SHO said. The arrested include people hailing from Raipur, Durg, Bhilai, Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari and natives of Jharkhand.
