Working professionals, students and people from economically weaker sections of the society will now get free-trade lPG cylinders at all petrol pumps in the city and from gas dealers.
An Government recognised identification card will be must for availing the facility. The order was given on Wednesday by Collector Thakur Ram Singh during a meeting with lPG dealers and petrol pump managers. He also instructed them to ensure that the 5 kg-lPG cylinders are available at every petrol pump.
He said that this step will increase the availability of lPG cylinders and thus eliminate black marketing of the cylinders. “As 5 kg-cylinders are not easily available in the city, cases of unauthorised sale of these cylinders have come to the fore. The step will curb such incidences,” the Collector said.
During the meeting, the lPG cylinders traders informed the Collector that the free-trade gas cylinder is available for Rs 563. A new connection with 5 kg-gas cylinder will cost Rs 1,715 for the first time after which the cylinder will come at its usual cost. The cylinders will be soon available at the petrol pumps and can be bought at anytime during the day.
Issuing safety orders, Collector Thakur Ram Singh also urged the people not to use cylinders that do not meet the required standard as they are dangerous. He also instructed his officers to take action against dealers who sell unauthorised cylinders.
