Polling for 151 urban bodies, which includes 9 Municipal Corporations, 38 Municipal Councils and 103 Nagar Panchayats across the state is going to be held on Saturday.
Preparations are all done for this purpose and polling teams have taken their positions in all the polling booths in the forenoon of Friday, official sources informed. Elaborate security arrangements are being made at all polling stations to ensure fair and peaceful polling, sources said.
A total of 35.3 lakh voters would exercise their franchise in the elections, among them about 1.25 lakh will be the first-time voters.
Though dissidents could upset many equations for the ward Corporators’ post all over the state, a straight fight is expected between the ruling Congress and the BJP for mayoral posts and for presidents of municipal councils.
This time ballot papers will be used for the poling instead of EVMs and the counting of the ballot papers will be done at district headquarters on December 24.
