For dealing with the new strain of coronavirus found in the United Kingdom, Chhattisgarh has begun preparations and a special ward with 330 beds is ready at AIIMS Raipur.
Chhattisgarh Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo said this on Tuesday during a media interaction.
“We need to identify the patients with the new strain of coronavirus in India. The new strain spreads 60 percent faster but there is no need to panic. Currently we do not have proper scientific information about it and we need to monitor people travelling to foreign countries or coming to India,” he said.
Replying to a query about 10 missing UK returned Covid patients in Chhattisgarh, Singh Deo said: "I had information about one missing person and the department is trying to find the person."
Over a question about requirement of separate hospitals for dealing with the new strain, the Minister said it was not a new disease. However, a new wing with 330 beds has been prepared in AIIMS Raipur for such patients.
