A CRPF trooper deployed for anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region committed suicide by shooting himself from his service rifle, police officials said on Tuesday.
The constable Sanjiv Pawar (28) of the 151st battalion had allegedly shot himself from his INSAS rifle after he returned from a patrol at 2.30 am on Monday to his hilly base in Keshloor between Sukma and Jagdalpur.
“The exact reason behind Pawar taking the extreme step is not ascertained. An enquiry has been ordered,” a senior CRPF officer said. Pawar hailed from Madhya Pradesh.
