The heavy rain in the mountainous areas and snowfall in the higher reaches being experienced for two days now has thrown normal life out of gear. The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway (NH 58) has been blocked at the lambagad slide zone. Those living in lambagad are presently without a clear road link. With no respite in the rain and snowfall in the mountainous regions, the temperature has taken a dip. Due to the rains, the markets bore a deserted look inspite of the upcoming festival Holi.
While rain has continued in the comparatively lower mountainous regions, snowfall has continued in the higher reaches with Auli, Badrinath and Hemkund among other areas covered in a blanket of snow. The locals awoke on Monday to a rainy day with farmers fearing damage to standing crop from the incessant rain.
