Bharatiya Kisan Union (Mann), headed by veteran kisan leader Bhupinder Singh Mann, on Sunday extended full support to the Congress candidate for Talwandi Sabo bypoll Harminder Singh Jassi.
Slamming CM Parkash Singh Badal for shedding crocodile tears for the welfare of farming community, Mann said that he lacked vision and commitment to cause and all his actions were politically motivated with the aim of garnering votes. Substantiating his charge, he said that Badal had failed to get any relief announced for drought from Modi Government at the Centre in which his party was a partner with his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Badal being the Cabinet Minister.
“It was the UPA Government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh which was more pro-farmer as evident from about total hike in MSP of paddy by about Rs 700 during last five years. Modi government had announced only a meagre Rs 50 per quintal hike in paddy MSP which is a cruel joke with the farmers,” he said.
