A hardcore Maoist cadre carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head was arrested during a search operation in insurgency-hit Narayanpur district, police said on Tuesday.
The District Force arrested the insurgent, identified as lakhmu (38) from a forested area near his native Kumnar village under Kurusnar police limits, Narayanpur Additional Superintendent of Police OP Sharma informed.
The insurgent was wanted for several offences including attacks on police party, loot, murder, torching of vehicles and others, he said.
The cadre was spotted in the forest near Kumnar village when he was trying to escape after sensing the movement of security personnel in the area following which he was arrested, he said.
lakhmu is an active member of Kutul lGS (local guerrilla squad) and had joined the outlawed Communist Party of India (CPI) (Maoist) in 1997 and since then was active in the region, Sharma said.
