In a small yet significant win for security forces over Maoists, two hardcore insurgents surrendered before Superintendent of police Narayanpur while one other Naxal was arrested in the district on Wednesday.

“Both the ultras surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kamble on Wednesday afternoon,” informed Deputy Superintendent of Police NK Sahu, but the DSP denied to revealing their identities citing security reasons.

One of them was commander of Kohkameta Area committee while another was the commander of Raoghat area committee,” the DSP said. The middle-aged ultras were active members of Naxal cadre for about 8 to 10 years, Sahu maintained.

They told police that Naxal movement in Chhattisgarh has lost its track and Maoists are causing to injustice to villagers. The condition of Maoist ultras in the ground level is very bad and for joining main stream of development the duo decided to surrender, Sahu said. “The Naxals will be given assistance as per rehabilitation policy of Chhattisgarh government,” Sahu maintained.

In a separate incident, a naxal was arrested during a joint search operation carried out by STF and district police in the forests of Edka village under Narayanpur police station area about 12 kms from district headquarters. “Samnath Kawde, member of Kiskodo dalam of Maoist, was nabbed by joint party” the DSP said. Kawde was President of banned Maoist outfit Jantana Sakar range committee, DSP revealed.

The patrol party rounded up the cadre on suspicion near Ekda village and during interrogation he admitted of being involved in naxal movement, Sahu said. A case against Kawde was registered with Narayanpur police station for his involvement in brawl, attempt to murder and carrying arms. He was presented in a local court from where he was sent to jail on judicial remand, the DSP concluded.
