Employment was given to about 17 lakh villagers as per their demand under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) so far in the current financial year (2014-15) in Chhattisgarh, officials stated. More than 87000 labourer families have received work for 100-150 days, they said. They said that as many as 46865 labourer families received job for 100 days while 40845 labourer families received job for 150 days. As many as 15011 differently abled persons have also received employment under the scheme.
The officers of Panchayat and Rural Development Department informed that approval was given for 2.08 lakh works under MGNREGS. An amount of Rs1825 crore was made available out of which 1534 crore have been utilized to complete 34000 works. The officers informed that as many as 52 lakh man days were created this year which includes 275 lakh man days for women, 176 lakh man days for ST and 60 lakh man days for SC families.
