There is a good news for the bird watchers that as many as 102 species of birds have been found in Kawardha forest division of Kabirdham district.

According to Forest Department officials, the bird species were found after carrying out an extensive survey of over 385 sq kms of jungle area in Kabirdham district.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Kawardha Alok Tiwari informed the Department had carried out a huge survey that covered certain Maikal hills that were the component of the great Satpura hill range.

“The birds never stay at one place and for most of the time, they keep on moving in search of food and shelter. However, if they get suitable environment and climate then they do stay for a longer period at one place,” said Tiwari, adding that they have also found some rare species of birds that are on the verge of extension living in these parts. He further said the department had already started working toward conservation of those species.

Department officials informed that seven children of woodpeckers, three kinds of Partridges along with several dozens of other birds were also found during the survey.

Special care was being taken in compartment felling so that the tress on which these birds live were not chopped and that there might not be much change in their natural culture, he said.
