nChhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said that his government is disbursing money to famers and labourers in a bid to revive the state's battered economy to bring it back on track amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Talking to reporters through videoconferencing, the Chief Minister said the recently launched Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana as well as employment generation through MNREGA would improve the purchasing power in the state and boost the economy.
Demand and supply as well as purchasing power are two factors which boost the economy, he added.
More than 23 lakh labourers were engaged under MNREGA till date while the number of farmers to be benefitted under the Nyaya scheme is around 18.75 lakhs, he said.
Baghel reiterated his demand to include agricultural work under MNREGA so that the labourers get employment during the coming monsoon season too.
This will on the one hand provide employment to landless workers and on the other hand increase farm production, reducing the production cost of agriculture as well, he added.
The procurement of minor forest produce by the government would help the tribal population to survive in this crucial time of the lockdown triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.
