Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday said that welfare schemes like the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana and Godhan Nyay Yojana had made farming a profitable business in the state.

Addressing a social meeting of Kurmi community at the Baloda Bazaar district headquarters, Baghel said the welfare schemes were giving an impetus to the rural economy.

The state government was committed to the welfare of famers in Chhattisgarh. By utilizing locally available resources, the government has boosted the rural economy, he said.

Godhan Nyay Yojana has provided new means of livelihood to self-help groups and landless people and has started yielding positive results, Baghel said.

Under Godhan Nyay Yojana, many beneficiaries have earned good profits by selling dung. Success stories from every corner of the state indicate the effectiveness of the scheme.

Chhattisgarh has become the first in the country to procure cow dung and value adding it in the form of compost and making various products besides generating electricity and moving towards producing paint.

Baghel also named the Mopka College in the district after the late Ramnath Verma and the Baloda Bazaar Polytechnic after former MP Karuna Shukla.
