The Chhattisgarh government on Friday urged all District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Chief Municipal Officers to ensure necessary arrangements for proper immersion of idols during forthcoming festivals.

The Urban Administration and Development Department called for cleaning ponds and ghats and arranging for pure drinking water during Teej, Ganesh Visarjan, Durga Puja, Pitra Moksha Amavasya and other         festivals.

They have been told to comply with the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal and the state    government.

Before immersion in ponds and ghats, prayer materials should be           separated and kept at a suitable place, it said.

According to the National Green Tribunal, idols should not be immersed in rivers under any circumstances to      prevent water contamination.

Besides, necessary action should be taken in coordination with the     district administration and police administration to control noise pollution. Idols should not be made of Plaster of Paris and other banned materials, the     government said.
