nChhattisgarh should be divided into zones and regular zonal events should be held in different sports, Chhattisgarh State Youth Commission Chairman Jitendra Mudiliar said on Sunday. Such a request will be made to the state government, Mudiliar said while speaking as chief guest at a seminar organised for players at the Rajnandgaon International Hockey Stadium, an official communication said. Different sporting events across Chhattisgarh were held on Sunday on the National Sports Day, to mark the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.Chhattisgarh Hockey President Feroze Ansari said Dhyan Chand visited Rajnandgaon in 1971. He called it a ‘Nursery of Hockey’ after seeing children playing hokcey on every street. A goodwill boys match was played between Rajnandgaon Blue and Rajnandgaon Red on Sunday. Rajnandgaon Blue won in a shootout 3-2 goals.
In Raipur, an event was organised to pay tributes to Dhyan Chand. A friendly hockey match was played at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Hockey Stadium.
