Timely surgical intervention by a team of of doctors and the right selection of procedures saved life of a seven-year old Delhi girl Tajveen Kaur. She suffered a traumatic road accident as a rod pierced through her chest breaking her rib cage and crushing the right subclavian artery and surrounding veins. She was rushed to BLK Super Speciality Hospital in a very serious condition, bleeding profusely from the entry and exit wounds.

“There was numbness in her right arm due to lack of blood circulation. We planned to put a graft. So a graft was taken from her the lower limb and was replaced with crushed subclavian artery. However, a CT scan showed blockage of the graft. She was re-explored and a synthetic graft was replaced with the previous graft. This worked and the blood supply was regained,” said Dr Sushant Srivastava, Sr Consultant & Director, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.
