Pediatric orthopedic cases have increased due to lack of activity
Since the advent of COVID-19, Dr Shubhang Aggarwal, Orthopaedic & Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon, NHS Hospital, Jalandhar said he has been seeing a lot of pediatric orthopedic cases like excruciating pain in neck and back in his OPD. He said such issues have seen a rise by 50 per cent.
The doctor blamed the wrong body posture behind the substantial increase in the multiple skeletal issues in the kids.
“Increased screen exposure in kids has not only made them physically unwell but also it’s also affecting their mental health. It has been seen that these kids suffering from neck and back issues mostly have wrong sitting postures coupled with almost no physical activity.
Pediatric orthopedic cases increased by 50 per cent due to lack of activity, poor posture during online classes. Most of them are overweight, have lack of stamina, going through anxiety and attention deficit disorder. Parents should come up with ways to engage their child both in studies and doing physical activities,” he says.
In the past, the cases of neck and back stiffness were observed in working adults but this time a lot of kids are experiencing this issue. It’s essential to observe some precautionary measures.
