H1N1 virus is on the prowl and is more fatal than any of the mosquito epidemics assailing us. Here are a few suggestions to deal with swine flu, says Roshani Devi

I am reading in the papers how dreaded swine flu is and how it is knocking our doors with unprecedented ferocity. Though the recommendation is to rush to a doctor if you have sudden cough, fever and muscle pain, here are some preventives that you should organise at home for the entire family:

1. Go for turmeric morning & night:  Have yourself and give your children organic (preferably fresh) turmeric in lukewarm milk before bedtime. Half tsp paste in a glass of milk is good to go. It boosts immunity.

2. Basil leaves are magic immunity boosters and also keep you away from throat infections. Chew 5-10 leaves every morning or go for the following concoction: Mix 5 basil leaves, 4 whole black pepper, 3 clove buds and 1 tsp of grated ginger in a glass of water and boil the mixture till the quantity reduces to half. Filter, add a tsp natural honey and have it twice a day.

3. Giloi tablets are easily available at Patanjali outlets and are a great way to work wonders to your immunity.

4. Take a tablet sized camphor (kapur) once or twice a month. Swallow it with water. Children can be given with mashed potatoes or banana.

5. Try homoeopathic medicines Pyrogenium 200 and Inflenzium 200, five tablets or three drops thrice a day. It works well as a preventive against common flu virus.

6. lots of papaya and citrus fruits should be taken and do avoid contact with infected person.
