In yet another incident of hit and run, a 23-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after a speeding cab (Swift Dzire) dragged him for around two kilometers in the national Capital’s Pandav Nagar on Saturday night. Two other people riding the scooty were also hit by the cab.

The deceased has been identified as Rahul, a resident of S block in Pandav Nagar. According to eyewitness, the cab had first hit two people riding on the scooty. “The cab after hitting the duo on scooty tried to flee when Rahul tried to stop the cab but got stuck in the moving cab and was dragged,” said an eyewitness.

“We had received a Police Control Room (PCR) call around 9:45 pm on Saturday regarding the incident following which a team rushed to the spot. Rahul was taken to nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

During our initial investigation it was revealed that after hitting the two people riding on scooty, Rahul tried to stop the cab but the driver didn’t stop and pressed the accelerator. Rahul was caught unaware and was stuck under the wheels and was dragged to two kilometers, eyewitnesses said. The two other injured persons in the incident were discharged after treatment,” said Pankaj Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East District.

“We have registered a case and a team is scanning the CCTV footage to identify the accused cab driver. We are yet to ascertain whether it was a private or app-based cab. Further investigation is on,” said the DCP.

This is not an isolated incident as in one such incident in August this year, a 50-year-old homeless woman was mowed down by a speeding SUV allegedly being driven by a young woman on the wrong side of the road in the posh Connaught Place area of Lutyens’ Delhi. The homeless woman was dragged for nearly 300 metres by the vehicle — a Jeep Compass — on Shaheed Singh Marg.

In another incident, a 26-year-old man had lost his life after a speeding Royal Enflied bullet rider lost control and hit him on Saturday night.

According to police, the incident was reported at around 11: 45 pm near Gandhi Colony flyover in Delhi.

“The injured identified as Vijay Yadav was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said a senior police official.

“During our initial investigation it was revealed that Vijay and one of his friend Ravinder were returning home with their hand cart when a speeding bike hit their hand cart on Gandhi colony flyover. Due to impact Vijay got his head hit on the roadside divider,” said a senior police official.

“After the incident, the biker managed to flee from the spot with his bike. Vijay is survived by 12 days old son and a wife. We have registered a case and we are looking for CCTV footage to identify the accused,” the senior police official added.
