Amid nationwide outrage over the fatal Hathras gangrape, a series of sexual attacks on the women were reported from Balrampur, Bhadohi, Gorakhpur, Baghpat, Bulundshahr, Azamgarh, Rae Bareli and Auraiya in the State.
At least three women were killed after rape.
Two persons waylaid and raped a 22-year-old Dalit girl and subjected her to such atrocity on her that she succumbed to her injuries in Balrampur. In a repeat of the Hathras episode, her body was also cremated in the night itself, but with the consent of her family members.
“Some media channels are reporting that her back, hands and legs were broken. This has not been ascertained in the post-mortem,” said Balrampur SP Dev Ranjan Verma. However, a probe into the matter was on, he added.
In Bhadohi district, the body of a 14-year-old Dalit girl was found on Thursday.
Her head was crushed with stone and her face was disfigured.
According to reports, the girl is a resident of Chakrajaram Tiwaripur village of Gopiganj police station area. She was attacked by some persons when she went to field to attend to nature’s call. Family members apprehend it was a case of sexual assault and murder.
In Bulandshahr, a woman constable alleged that Inspector Sachin Malik of Gulaoti police station tortured her physically and mentallly while she was posted of Bulandshahr from July 2017 to July 2020. The woman cop alleged Malik molested her in public during her posting.
In an application to SSP, Bulandshahr, the woman cop charged that Malik touched her inappropriately and on resistance, handed her death threats.
The SSP initiated a departmental enquiry against Malik and a woman officer would probe the incident and report to the top cop in a week.
In Gorakhpur, the body of an unidentified woman was found stuffed in a box lying in Maniram area on Thursday. The victim in her early 30s was sporting a red dress and had vermilion and bindi on her forehead.
The police said it seemed that the victim was killed somewhere and later her body was thrown at Gholhawa embankment in Maniram area. The police observed a tattoo on her arm and found some clothes, medicines and a "mangalsutra" inside the box. Efforts were on to ascertain the victim's identity.
In Baghpat, a teenaged girl tried to commit suicide after being raped and blackmailed by neighbour Naseem on last Tuesday. The 17-year-old victim's father later lodged an FIR against the miscreant, who was arrested. The complainant said Naseem raped the girl, harassed and blackmailed her after which she attempted to end her life.
Elsewhere in Bulandshar, a 14-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour late at a village in Kakore area on Tuesday night. The victim's father lodged a case and the accused was arrested on Thursday.
In Azamgarh too, an eight-year-old girl was raped by 20-year-old Danish. While the victim was hospitalised in a critical condition at BHU, the accused was arrested.
Meanwhile in Rae Bareli, a woman and her daughter were killed by robbers in Rae Bareli sometime on Wednesday night. The gang entered a house at Hajipur area of Nasirabad police station area and escaped after committing the crime. Circumstantial evidence suggested that after the robbery, the killers targeted the victims with sharp-edged weapons.
In Auraiya, the bodies of a woman and her three daughters were found hanging in a room of their house in Dibiyapur area on Thursday.
SP of Auraiya, Suniti said the bodies of Sadhna (32) of Sehud village, and her three daughters Anjum (7), Manjum (3) and a month-old newborn was found hanging. Sadhna got married to Kuldeep eight years ago and had three daughters.
The couple had a maintenance case pending in the court due to marital discord but lived together after an agreement. Kuldeep had gone for some work in the morning and when he returned in the noon, he found the door bolted from inside. Peeping through a window, he found their bodies hanging from the ceiling. A forensic team was pressed into service.
