Move will help victims get relief faster

Taking a cue from the Uttar Pradesh Government, the Center is set to bring man-animal conflict under the ambit of "disaster" category as is being done for the cases of fire and floods. The idea is to ensure early resolutions of such incidents in a coordinated manner at the district level across the country.

The Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh in 2018 had made man-animal conflict a "State Declared Disaster" bringing such incidents under the cover of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to ensure better coordination and relief during such mishaps in the State.

As per the State Government order, faster monetary relief is enabled to the victims of attack of wild animals. As per the provisions of the order, in cases of human death due to man-animal conflict, relief of Rs  5 lakh is doled out to the family of deceased while the disbursement of compensation for injury is provided in accordance to SDRF guidelines. It also ensured that the amount of Rs 1 lakh per death would be arranged by the State forest department from its own budget to the revenue department.
