On a day when the Delhi Government took slew of measures to curb the rising noxious levels of pollutants in city’s air, Delhi Transport Minister Satyendra Jain on Sunday said a special team is being formed to keep tabs on the movement of banned vehicles. “Several steps have been incorporated help reduce pollution levels, generated by vehicular emissions. Transport sector has been directed to take immediate steps,” said Jain.

Illustrating the strategy to fight pollution, the Minister said overloaded vehicles will be challaned and impounded. “As per the direction of Supreme Court of India, non-destined vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi and strict action will be taken against them for not having the Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) accreditation.”

The Transport Minister said strict action will be taken against visibly polluting vehicles carrying construction materials uncovered. The Transport Department has been asked to ensure that all heavy vehicles ply in the designated left lane as per the directions of the Supreme Court of India.

“We will clear all major arterial roads more than 100-feet wide in first instance. People involved in the odd-even scheme will be incorporated for enforcement of rules,” said Jain.
