The wife and the daughter of Director General (DG) of Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) BK Bansal, who was arrested by the CBI on July 16 for alleged bribery, committed suicide in their flat in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar on Tuesday. A senior police officer said, “Bansal’s wife Satyabala (57) and daughter Neha (27) left separate suicide notes, saying nobody was responsible for their death.”
Bansal’s son Yogesh, who deals in properties, was not seen at his residence since Friday. Police said, Satyabala was a housewife and Neha was unmarried and unemployed.
The police official, who is privy to the investigation, said that two suicide notes were found in one spiral notebook where it was written that they had committed suicide as they were disturbed and depressed over Bansal’s arrest and frequent raids on their premises. The police official confirmed that Bansal’s apartment was raided by the CBI on Saturday and Sunday.
Although Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi) Rishi Pal Singh said, “Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide, and not a case of murder. Till now we have not found any foul play into it. The two suicide notes, each of which had five to six lines written in Hindi, stated that no one was responsible for their suicide.”
The police official said that around 12.45 pm on Tuesday, when maids of the Bansals — Aarti and Rachna — came to work, Satyabala asked them to clean their house and prepare lunch but not to disturb her and Neha.
“After instructing the maids, Satyabala and Neha went into their respective rooms. While Satyabala locked her room from inside, Neha shut her room but did not lock it,” said the police official.
Around 1.30 pm, Aarti went and knocked at Satyabala’s room to inform her that food was ready. When she did not get a reply, she tried to open the door which was locked from inside, police said.
“Then the maid went and knocked at Neha’s bedroom. After she opened the door, she was shocked to discover Neha’s body hanging from the ceiling fan with a piece of cloth,” said the official.
Aarti and Rachna immediately ran out and informed the security guards about the incident and also expressing fear that Satyabala might have also taken the extreme step.
The guards made a PCR call at 1.50 pm after which a police team rushed to the spot. “A police team reached Bansal’s flat and broke open Satyabala’s room to find her hanging from the ceiling fan too with a Chunni,” said the police official.
Bansal, an additional secretary-rank officer in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, was arrested by CBI on Saturday for allegedly accepting bribe from a prominent pharmaceutical company. According to the CBI, Bansal was arrested while receiving Rs 9 lakh of the Rs 20 lakh promised as a bribe.
