A man brutally murdered his sister over the fear of losing ancestral property to her on Wednesday around 3 am in RK Puram’s Sector-3 area. The accused, Mohinder, 27, has been taken into custody. Both Mohinder and his sister resided at House Number-137 in RK Puram’s Sector 3. The victim, Jyoti (30), used to handle the finances of the house after the death of their parents.
Mohinder slit the throat of his sister in her sleep. After fatally attacking his sister, Mohinder called PCR around 3.30 am and confessed to his crime. A police team reached the spot and was shocked to find that Mohinder had slashed his wrist also. The duo was found lying in a pool of blood. They were rushed to Safdarjung hospital, where Jyoti was declared brought dead, while Mohinder is undergoing treatment. It came to light during treatment that after the murderous attack, the repentant Mohinder drank acid. The murder weapon, kitchen knife, has been seized.
It appears that the duo had a heated argument as there were scuffle marks on the body, police said. The police have recovered a diary in which Mohinder had scribbled his fears that his sister would take away all the property after her marriage.
He further alleged that Jyoti had stopped giving him his share of money that she had received after the death of their father. The police are now awaiting the arrival of their younger brother, Shivendra (32), who is studying in Bangalore. Post-mortem will be conducted after his arrival. Meanwhile police have registered a case of murder and attempt to suicide against Mohinder, a senior official added.
Neighbours claimed that the brother-sister duo usually fought with each other. “They didn’t interact. Their parents passed away in 2008. There mother had passed away before they shifted to Delhi,” said one of the neighbour. Mohinder is a class 10 dropout. Jyoti was earlier studying at a private institution but had stopped going there as well. Both of them were unemployed.
