The Delhi Police has registered a case of molestation and criminal intimidation against Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister and Congress MlA Harak Singh Rawat.

The Minister was booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and threatening to kill her. The victim had lodged a complaint against Rawat on Monday. There are many anomalies in the statement of the woman and the same is being verified by the police. Rawat has rejected the allegation as politically motivated.

A 32-year-old woman alleged that she was molested by Rawat when she had gone to meet him regarding a job in Green Park. The woman hails from Muzaffarnagar and is currently residing in Rohini. In her complaint, the woman claimed that she was in constant touch with Rawat for a job. When he was in Delhi in September 2013, he was staying at a relative’s flat in Green Park. It was then that he asked her to meet him. The woman reached the location where he touched her inappropriately and misbehaved with her. She somehow managed to flee and reach her residence.

“The woman could not explain the reason for the delay in filing a case. A complaint was received on Monday and after it a case was registered,” said a senior police official. A case under Section 354 (molestation) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station. Rawat was Uttarakhand’s Agriculture Minister in former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna’s Cabinet. He again became a Cabinet Minister when Harish Rawat took over as the new Chief Minister.
