Nearly 100 students belonging to Neyveli lignite Corporation Higher Secondary School in Cuddalore district, 200 km from Chennai, fell ill on Thursday after consuming the mid-day meal and were rushed to hospitals. .
“The students numbering 150 were served sambar rice and egg curry. It seems the eggs served were not fresh. An enquiry is on. The condition of the eight children admitted to the hospital is normal and they are under observation,” said a senior officer.
An official in the Chief Minister’s Office said that Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who is presently at Kodanadu in Nilgiri district asked the chief secretary and other officials for a situation report.
