In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man murdered a 17-year-old girl in her Munirka house.
The killer, Subhash, is allegedly a relative of the 12th grade student Sakshi and had been harassing her for the last five years.
Even though Sakshi's father reprimanded the young man and asked him to leave the girl alone as he did not approve of Subhash's ways, the accused kept on visiting the house of the victim over the years.
As the family continued to reject the unemployed youth's proposal, the accused became desperate and told Sakshi's father that he would kill the girl if they did not allow him to marry her. Surprisingly, the father of the victim did not inform the police about the threats and on Friday morning, Subhash managed to get into the house and kill the girl in cold blood.
"The accused entered Sakshi's room at around 10:45 am on Friday and shot her in the chest at point blank range.
The girl died on the spot," a police officer at Vasant Vihar police station said.
What is more appalling is the fact that there were two women in the house when Subhash, a resident of loni in neighbouring Ghaziabad, allegedly barged into the house at 401/1, Budh Vihar in Munirka.
The women told the police that Subhash went straight to the 12th grader's room, bolted it from inside and fired at her. He then came out of the room, latched the house from outside and escaped on a bike.
On hearing the shots, the children of the locality who were playing outside informed a neighbour Bhisham Raj, who in turn called the Police Control Room (PCR).
When the police reached the spot they found the girl lying in a pool of blood. The bullet had missed her heart by a few inches, pierced through the body and exited from the rear. She was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital by the PCR van only to be declared dead on arrival. The autopsy on the body will be performed on Saturday.
A case of murder has been registered and the accused has been arrested.
"He was stalking and harassing my daughter for the last five years as he wanted to marry her. He had threatened to kill my daughter and himself if we did not get them married.
I had warned him not to visit or contact my daughter as even she did not wish to marry him" said Pritam Singh, Sakshi's father.
However, a police official involved in the investigations said: "There is strong possibility that Sakshi had been in touch with the accused and had recently had an argument over the marriage issue again."
Initial investigations have revealed that the victim was in touch with the accused who had been stalking her since she was 13-years-old.
The accused had allegedly given a mobile phone to the girl and was talking to her constantly and her parents were oblivious of the fact.
However, later Sakshi's father discovered that she was in touch with the accused over the phone on a regular basis.
Police is also investigating a property dispute that was a bone of contention with the family of the girl.
Sakshi and her family reside in their ancestral property in their village and one of Sakshi's aunts resides with them.
Sakshi's father belongs to Narela in Outer district and is employed with Jawahar lal Nehru University (JNU) as a plumber. Sakshi's mother Kaushalya too is a class IVth employee at JNU.
