In an incident reminiscent of the gruesome murder of a girl who was stabbed 26 times to death in Delhi’s Burari in September, a 34-year-old woman was stabbed 30 times at the busy MG Road Metro Station by her stalker in Gurgaon on Monday morning.

Police officials said the incident happened in the gallery area outside the metro station around 9:30 am when the station was bustling with commuters. They said the accused, identified as Jitendra (28) — an autorickshaw driver and a native of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh — was arrested for killing the victim, identified as Pinki Devi, a native of Shillong, who used to work in a beauty parlour in outer Delhi’s Rohini.

Pinki was rushed to Civil lines Hospital in Gurgaon where she was declared brought dead by the doctors, said officials.

Eyewitnesses said there were many people who witnessed the gory incident but none had the courage to stop the attacker. The accused was, however, rounded up by the public after he tried to flee  the spot. He was given a sound thrashing by the people before being handed over to the CISF officials. He was then handed over to the local police.

“Pinki came out of the metro station and was going towards the auto stand when she was accosted by the accused and both of them had a heated argument. Before anybody could understand what was happening, Jitendra whipped out a knife and stabbed her repeatedly until she became unconscious,” said ACP Mamta Kharab.

Police said the accused, who stays in a rented flat in Rajiv Nagar in Gurgaon, was allegedly stalking and harassing the victim for the last two months.

“During the initial interrogation, the accused confessed that he was in love with her. Pinki, however, rejected his marriage proposals and when on Monday she did so it angered Jitendra who went on a stabbing spree,” said the police

official.

Jitender came to know Pinki two-and-a-half month back as he used to regularly drop her to the MG Road Metro Station from Sirhaul. “This is how they started knowing each other and Jitender started liking for her.

He was after her but she did not like his ways,” said the police official.

Pinki was married twice, said police, adding that her current husband Man Singh, a native of Nepal, told them that Jitender had come to his house to enquire about something two months ago but he was not entertained.

The post-mortem report of the victim showed six deep wounds on her neck and multiple injuries in stomach, groin and chest.
