The Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) engineered a major dent in the ruling National Conference (NC) when former Member of Parliament Mehboob Beg withdrew from polls to support former Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed from Anantnag constituency.
Beg had been nominated by the NC to contest against Sayeed. Beg, who “offered his unconditional support to the PDP patron”, however, said that he would not formally join the PDP.Beg has changed several political parties since he quit his medical profession to step into his father’s shoes.
