The much talked about wedding of Sasikala Pushpa, the Rajya Sabha member belonging to the AIADMK, with B Ramasamy, which was to   be solemnised at The lalit in New Delhi on Monday, suffered a setback as a family court in Madurai issued an order on Saturday restraining her from tying the nuptial knot.

The court order was in response to a petition filed by T Sathya Priya (34), the second wife of the bridegroom Ramasamy, who told the court that she was married to him in 2014 and they are not legally divorced.

Earlier, Sathya had approached the Madurai district collector with a plea to stop the scheduled marriage between Sasikala and Ramasamy and save the former’s family life.

Sathya, an MBA, was married to Ramasamy in December 2014 and had been staying with him in New Delhi for almost two years. She had to come back to her village to be with her parents for her delivery. In December 2017, Sathya delivered a girl child. She said Ramasamy had not visited her or the child ever once.

According to Sathya, her parents were told by Ramasamy that he was a widower and was in the lookout for a wife to take care of him as well his daughter. He claimed that he was working as a judge in New Delhi. But after her  marriage, Sathya said she had never seen him going to the court even once. Whenever she asked him why he was not going to the court, Ramasamy used to beat her up and hence she stopped asking him about his work.

For Sasikala, this is her second marriage. She had got her 24-year-old marriage with lingeswaran annulled by a Delhi court earlier this month. Though the  controversial MP’s wedding invitation stated that bridegroom Ramasamy  was the pro-vice chancellor of Oriental Institute of Science and Technology and legal adviser to the member of Parliament, the internet is silent about  the existence of such a university.

Sasikala had courted controversy when she was involved in a fisticuff and slapping incident with another MP from Tamil Nadu in 2016. Though she had been suspended from the AIADMK by none other than then party supremo J Jayalalithaa, she continues to be in the party.

During the RK Nagar bypoll, she had filed a petition challenging the candidature of TTV Dhinkaran but she was seen with him during the launching of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhakam in Madurai. The MP was not available for comments as she has been incommunicado since her divorce from lingeswaran.
