Refund excess fees with 9% interest, AAP Govt orders 575 pvt schools

Staff Reporter

The Delhi Government on Wednesday directed private schools to refund excess fees, with 9 per cent interest, charged by them between June 2016 and January 2018 after the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission.

Initially, nearly 575 private schools have been asked to follow the direction. Recently, the AAP Government had ordered some private schools to rollback hiked fees after parents had complained to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Government directive comes following the report of a committee constituted by the Delhi High Court for examining the records of private schools in respect of implementation of the 6th Pay. The panel has audited 1,169 schools so far.

“The schools are directed to refund the fees within 7 days and ensure disbursal of pending payment of salaries if any,” an order by the Directorate of Education (DoE) said.

“Non-compliance with the order shall be viewed seriously and action shall be taken against the schools under the provisions of the Delhi School Education Act, 1973,” the DoE order quoted.
