Ram Gopal's re-entry into SP imminent

The internal feud within the Samajwadi Party’s first family seems to be ebbing away if indications such as the continuation of expelled SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav as party’s leader in the Rajya Sabha are considered.

The decision to revoke his suspension from the party is likely to be taken either on the birthday of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on November 22 or a day before. Mulayam, along with his son and Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, is likely to inaugurate lucknow-Agra Expressway on November 21. Ram Gopal was expelled from the party on October 23 for writing an open letter to the party cadre urging them to rally around Akhilesh Yadav, who he termed as SP’s future.

Ram Gopal not only continues to be the SP leader in the Rajya Sabha, but also spoke in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday during the debate on demonetisation of high value notes. He attacked the NDA Government on demonetisation on the lines of a resolution adopted by SP Central Parliamentary Board in lucknow on November 13. Party sources said that the resolution was adopted to pave the way for Ram Gopal’s return to the party.

SP sources said Ram Gopal is likely to retain his status as the “face of the SP in Delhi” and will regain the office of general secretary and national spokesman of the party. With his return, the issue of sacking of five MlCs and other youth leaders of the party in recent months is also likely to be settled.
