The Delhi Police's Special Cell has launched a manhunt for three bookies-cum-punters named by bookie Mohammed Yahya during interrogation. Sources said police wanted to secure the custody of the three suspects before it moved to the door of another IPl team whose three players were allegedly involved in spot-fixing scandal.
Sources said that while circumstantial evidence and the statement of Yahya suggested involvement of three other players, nabbing the suspects was required before proceeding further in the probe.
Sources said that the wanted bookies-cum-punters were contacts of three cricket players against whom evidence was being gathered. “We will be progressing against three more players only after we can arrested those names revealed by Yahya,” a senior official said.
He, however, ruled out the involvement of foreign players in the scandal. The Delhi Police was also working out to see as to how much money was involved in the case. It was not possible to have any exact figure but it must be running into hundreds of crores of rupees, the sources said.
Police were also focusing on completing the investigation as soon as possible and submit a chargesheet in 60 days.
