A woman pilot and her husband, a ground staffer, were assaulted by a mob for employing and torturing a 10-year-old girl as a domestic help in Delhi’s Dwarka on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Kaushik Bagchi and his wife Poornima, were arrested, and the police rescued the minor, sending her back to her parents’ home.
The girl was hired two months back through a relative of hers who also worked nearby. The abuse was discovered after a relative noticed the injuries on the girl’s body and informed the police. The girl had visible injury marks, leading to the mob’s anger.
Shocking visuals showed the mob beating the pilot and her husband, who tried to intervene. Poornima was heard apologising in the video while Kaushik was seen shielding her from the mob saying that “she would die...Leave her..”. An elderly man intervened and then the crowd dispersed.
