Close on the heels of an ‘audacious’ terrorist strike on Sunjwan military station in Jammu, alert troops of the Indian Army on Sunday evening repulsed a surprise attack by Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistan Army thereby killing one heavily armed terrorist in Gulpur area along the line of Control (loC) in Poonch.
According to ground reports, two other terrorists received life-threatening injuries in the heavy exchange of fire on the loC and were seen returning towards nearest Pakistan Army post.
Defence PRO in Jammu lt-Col Devendra Anand said, “On Monday around 5.15 pm, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars and engaged Indian troops deployed in forward posts along the loC”.
In response, the Indian Army strongly responded with retaliatory fire in equal measure, the Defence PRO added.
“Around the same time, alert troops noticed some movement and immediately engaged the group with effective fire. There was immediate retaliation from the armed intruders. The supporting and covering fire from the Pakistan Army posts continued unabated,” the Defence PRO said.
“In the ensuing firefight, one armed intruder was killed and at least two others sustained grievous injuries and were seen returning back towards Pakistani post. Subsequent search and sanitisation operations carried out resulted in recovery of one body in combat fatigues”, the Defence PRO added.
During the search operation Army troops recovered 3 live RPG Grenades, 4 disposable Rocket launchers, 2 IKOM radio set,1 AK Magazine, 2 Molotov cocktails, 4 UBGl grenades, 7 Hand grenades , PIKA belt fired, 1 Mobile Phone, 3 back packs (m) Medical satchel (n) Pak National flag.
Defence PRO said the heavy recovery of weapons like disposable Rls, Rocket propelled grenades and incendiary ammunition clearly indicate implicit support of the Pakistan Army to target and cause causalities while maintaining a degree of deniability.
