Pak ramps up terror factory

As Srinagar reeled under the fidayeen attack on Wednesday, officials here said that Pakistan has ramped up its terror factory by activating at least 60 terrorist camps and setting up three communication stations close to the line of Control (loC) .

The increase in terrorist training camps from 42 to 60 has alarmed security forces as many camps are located in PoK and in the mainland. Officials said these camps were clandestinely increased to avoid attention from the international community as Pakistan has given a commitment that its soil will not be allowed to export terrorism.

They said three high-powered centres to notice two months ago. While one station is located opposite Rajouri sector, south of the Pir Panjal mountain range, the other two stations are positioned north of Pir Panjal, opposite Keran and Machil sectors of the Valley.

These communication centres are used to give instructions to militants about targets, position of Indian security forces and sources to be tapped in Kashmir for seeking shelter besides money and logistical support.

Coupled with these two developments, comparative figures of infiltration bids and ceasefire violations indicate that Pakistan will not wait for snow to melt thereby making ingress routes more accessible for militants. Earlier, these bids used to gather momentum May onwards but the last two months have seen increased activity on the loC.

While January and February this year have seen 24 ceasefire violations and five infiltration bids, the corresponding months last year had seen just three cases of ceasefire and one infiltration attempt.  Moreover, local units of Pakistan Army were directed to step up more support to militants to be launched into India and give covering fire when they infiltrate.

This direction came in the wake of some units expressing reluctance to help the militants fearing retaliation by the Indian security forces, officials said.
