The NDA is set to leave the UPA far behind in terms of number of seats in the 2014 general elections. A Times Now-C Voter survey suggests that the Opposition alliance will bag 186 seats while the UPA will be confined to just 117 seats.

Compared with the last similar survey conducted by the C Voter in July, this is a vastly improved tally, which shows that the NDA is gaining ground after Narendra Modi's projection as its Prime Ministerial candidate. The July survey gave NDA 156 seats and UPA 136.

The survey also shows that regional players are expected to retain their strength and will play a big role in the government formation. Among regional players, BSP, SP, AIADMK, Trinamool Congress, TRS and YSR Congress could improve their tally. These regional players will mop up as many as 240 seats.

In 2009 polls, the UPA had bagged 259 seats and NDA 159. The BJP's individual tally is expected to go up to 162 from 116 and Congress tally could come down to 102 from 206. This could be Congress' worst-ever performance in the lok Sabha polls.

The survey shows that the BJP vote share will increase from 19 per cent to 27 per cent and the Congress's vote share will come down from 29 per cent to 21 per cent.In the national capital, where Congress won all of seven seats in 2009, the BJP is expected to win three seats and Congress four.

In the prestige State of Bihar, where the BJP was dumped by long-term ally JD(U), the voters are set to punish Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The survey shows that BJP will improve its tally from 14 from 12 and JD(U) nosedive to 9 from 20. RJD will emerge as a major gainer despite party chief lalu Prasad's incarceration at Ranchi in fodder scam.

In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI alliance will improve its tally. The Shiv Sena is expected to get14 seats as against 11 seats in 2009 and  BJP 13 seats against nine while the RPI get 2 seats. With this, these three parties are expected to share amongst themselves 29 out of total 48 seats in Maharashtra. Congress tally is likely to come down from 17 seats to 11 seats while the NCP also suffers a loss of two seats.

In Andhra Pradesh, Telanagana Rashtra Samiti of K Chandrasekhar Rao and YSR Congress of Jagan Mohan Reddy will gain at the cost of the Congress. With its decision in favour of a separate Telangana State, the Congress was hoping to bag most of the 17 seats in that region.

The survey suggests Congress individual tally of 33 out of total 42 seats in the last national poll would come down to a  meager 7 seats. IN Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is expected  to win 23 seats and the Congress mere six, whereas left front could hand over a crushing defeat to the Congress in Kerala by winning 13 of the 20 seats.

In Jharkhand, the BJP is expected to win six seats and retain its tally of three seats in Himachal Pradesh. In Haryana, Congress' loss can be BJP's gain. The Congress is expected to win five and BJP four. In Gujarat, the BJP can win 22 seats and the Congress just four. The BJP is eying a major victory in Rajasthan by increasing its tally from five to 19 seats.

In Odisha, the BJD will retain its supremacy winning 12 of the 21 seats where as the Congress will win nine seats. AIADMK will win 28 seats in TN, while DMK will get just five seats. In West Bengal, Trinamool can increase its tally to 23 forms 19 whereas left go one up from 15 to 16.
